User Agreement

These terms govern your use of Luzbase — the LaTeX authoring, compilation and sharing platform at luzbase.com — and form an agreement between you and us.

Version 2026-09-16 · Effective 16 September 2026

Draft pending legal review. This document is a good-faith description of how Luzbase currently operates. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified legal professional, and passages in square brackets are placeholders still to be completed.

1.Acceptance of these terms

Luzbase is operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], registered at [REGISTERED ADDRESS](“Luzbase”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, or by using any part of the service without an account, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Luzbase.

You must be at least 13 years old to use Luzbase, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. If you are using Luzbase on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

2.What Luzbase provides

Luzbase lets you:

  • write LaTeX and publish it as a shareable snippet, rendered in the browser or compiled on our servers;
  • author multi-file LaTeX projects with branches, commits and collaborators, and compile them to PDF;
  • convert an image of an equation into LaTeX using our OCR service.

Luzbase is under active development. Features may change, and some are offered on a beta or best-effort basis. We will try to give reasonable notice before removing something you depend on, but we do not guarantee that any particular feature will continue to exist.

3.Your account

You are responsible for your account credentials and for everything done through your account. Use a password you do not use elsewhere, and tell us promptly through our contact form if you believe your account has been compromised.

You must give us an email address you control. We use it to verify your account, to send service messages such as password resets, and to contact you about material changes to these terms.

One person or organisation per account. Do not share an account, and do not create an account on someone else’s behalf without their permission.

4.Your content stays yours

You keep all ownership of what you create on Luzbase— your LaTeX sources, project files, uploaded images and the documents they compile into (“your content”). Nothing in these terms transfers your copyright to us.

To actually run the service, we need your permission to handle your content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit, compile and display your content strictly for the purpose of operating Luzbase for you— for example, to keep it in our storage, to run it through a TeX compiler and return a PDF, and to show it back to you and to anyone you have shared it with.

That licence is limited to running the service. It does not let us sell your content, publish it beyond the audience you chose, or use it to train machine-learning models. It ends when you delete the content, except for backup copies that age out on our ordinary retention cycle.

You are responsible for having the rights to everything you upload, including any third-party figures, fonts, packages or data you include in a document.

5.Public snippets and sharing

A snippet marked public is exactly that: anyone with the link can view, copy and embed it, it may be listed on our Explore page, and it may be indexed by search engines. Do not put anything confidential in a public snippet.

Making a snippet private afterwards does not retract copies other people already made, and we cannot recall a link that has already been shared.

Project visibility and member roles are yours to configure. You are responsible for who you invite to a project and for what they can do once invited.

6.Anonymous snippets and the secret key

You can create a snippet without an account. When you do, we give you a secret key. That key is the only credential that can later edit, delete or claim that snippet — we do not know who created it and we have no other way to establish that it is yours.

If you lose the secret key, the snippet cannot be recovered, and we will not be able to help. Sign in and claim an anonymous snippet to attach it to your account if you want it to survive losing the key.

7.Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • upload or share content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or that you have no right to distribute;
  • attempt to escape the compilation sandbox, read files that are not yours, or use LaTeX’s shell-escape or file-I/O facilities to reach our infrastructure;
  • abuse the compile or OCR services — for example by submitting work designed to exhaust CPU, memory or storage, or by automating volumes that degrade the service for others;
  • probe, scan or test the security of the platform without our written permission;
  • resell or redistribute the service itself, or use it to build a substantially similar competing product;
  • use Luzbase to send spam, phish, or distribute malware.

We apply resource limits to compilation and OCR. Those limits exist to keep the platform usable for everyone and may change.

If you believe you have found a security vulnerability, please report it through our contact form(choose “Report a security issue”) rather than exploiting it. We will not pursue good-faith research that is reported promptly and privately.

8.Plans, billing and cancellation

Luzbase offers a free plan and one or more paid plans. Current prices and inclusions are on the pricing page.

Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis and renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and you keep access until then.

Upgrades, and changes between paid plans, billing intervals or seat counts, take effect immediately and are prorated: the difference is charged or credited on your next invoice. Moving back to the free plan takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and may reduce limits in a way that affects existing projects — check the pricing page first.

Payments are processed by Polar Software, Inc. (“Polar”), which acts as our reseller and merchant of record: Polar sells you the subscription, charges your payment method, calculates and remits sales tax or VAT, and issues your invoices and receipts. Polar’s buyer terms, shown at checkout, also apply to your purchase. We do not receive or store your full card details.

Except where the law gives you a refund right, payments are non-refundable. We may change prices with at least [NOTICE PERIOD] notice before your next renewal. If you delete your account, any paid subscription on it ends immediately and is not refunded for the unused part of the period.

9.Availability

We work to keep Luzbase available and your data intact, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service and we do not currently offer a service-level agreement. Maintenance, outages at our infrastructure providers, and faults can all interrupt access. Keep your own copies of work that matters to you. Compilation depends on a TeX toolchain and third-party packages that we do not control, and a document that compiles today may not compile after an upstream change.

10.Suspension and termination

You can stop using Luzbase and delete your account at any time from your account settings.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms, that is being used unlawfully, or that puts the platform or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put things right first; for serious or urgent cases we may act immediately.

After termination we will delete or anonymise your content in line with the retention periods in the Privacy Policy. Public snippets you created may be removed. Please export anything you want to keep before closing your account.

11.Disclaimers

To the fullest extent the law allows, Luzbase is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will meet your requirements, that compilation output will be correct or suitable for submission anywhere, or that the service will be secure, uninterrupted or error-free.

12.Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Luzbase will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the service.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these terms is limited to the greater of [CAP AMOUNT] or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13.Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. Every version carries a version identifier and an effective date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects your rights we will give you reasonable notice — by email or in the app — and, where appropriate, ask you to accept the new version before continuing to use Luzbase. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

14.Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW / JURISDICTION], and the courts of [COURTS] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that consumers may bring claims in the courts of their place of residence where the law gives them that right. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us — most issues are resolved quickly that way.

15.Contact us
